Environmental Policy
At Fireplace World, we are committed to continually improving our environmental performance. We acknowledge the impact that our activities have on the environment, both for current and future generations. Our Environmental Policy is founded on our corporate culture of waste reduction and avoidance by improving people’s understanding of these impacts, and our business processes.
Our Commitment
To improve and maintain our environmental performance, we shall:
  •
  • 1. Meet, and, where possible, exceed compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and directives.
  •
  • 2. Seek and implement opportunities to reduce consumption and maximise efficiency of energy and water.
  •
  • 3. Continually improve our procedures and systems to reduce pollution.
  •
  • 4. Employ a strategy of "Avoid → Reduce → Reuse → Recycle → Dispose" in our manufacturing process to reduce our waste material.
  •
  • 5. Implement education and maintain engagement of our people to entrench environmental responsibility throughout our operations.
  •
  • 6. Encourage sustainable development through business example and voluntary endeavours both in China and the UK.
Recycling Electrical Products
On the 1st of July 2007, The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE) came into effect aimed at encouraging people to arrange the collection of their old electrical products for recycling, rather than simply disposing of them. When you purchase an electrical item from us, we can help you to recycle your old one free of charge.
Why Do We do it?
It goes without saying that recycling unwanted and unneeded electrical products is obviously better for the environment. The amount of electrical waste arising from discarded electrical products is reportedly rising by about 5% each year. Currently, more than 75% of this waste ends up in landfill sites, where lead, zinc and other toxins contained in electrical waste can contaminate soil and water. This in turn can cause serious harm to the environment, wildlife and, potentially, human health.
How Can I Recycle my old fire?
As a company, we offer a completely free "take back" scheme to make it easier for you to be able to recycle you old electric fire. Under this scheme, when you purchase an electric fire from us, you may return your old fire to us within 28 days of your purchase and we will recycle it for you. All you have to do is send the fire you would like recycled to:

Fireplace World Head Office
Fired Up Buildings
St Thomas Road
Huddersfield
HD1 3LF

You don’t even need to have purchased your original fire from us, however this is only limited to fires, and does not extend to fireplaces, mantelpieces, or other, non-electrical fireplace components.
What will happen to my old fire?
The products we receive back will sent to a local recycling facility where roughly 85% of the materials will be recycled. (Most electrical products contain a small portion of non-recyclable materials).
How long does this process usually take?
In order to minimise the impact of vehicle emissions we will store your old product in our warehouse until we have sufficient quantity to justify a delivery to our recycling partner. once it has been delivered to the recycling plant, it takes up to 24 hours to be broken down into its components. After that it’s simply a question of supply and demand as to when these parts will be used.
