Summer Design Trends

We’re almost half way through summer already – and that means two things: the Great British heat wave is nearly over, and that there’s a whole host of red hot interior design trends to explore! Here are two of our favourites to help ignite your creativity:

Marble Accents

Marble has ever been the picturesque pinnacle of pristine elegance; a sophisticated, durable material that inspires magnificence, able to stand the test of time and look good doing it. The incredible variety of pleasing patterns and fantastic finishes make marble a versatile choice with amazing potential for discerning tastes.

The problem is, whenever marble is mentioned the immediately reaction is to think big, monumental almost. The grand structures and ambitious sculptures of Ancient Greece and Rome come to mind. There’s little doubt that marble carries a certain air of extravagance. Hardly seems practical, or even desirable, as an everyday interior design choice.

Well, think again! Forget the idea of temples, museums or the ornaments in your grandmother’s immaculate ‘sitting’ room. Marble’s comeback isn’t an overwhelming fanfare or a 4-day Mardi Gras, nor is it a colossal commitment.

The devil is in the detail; subtlety is the order of the day for modern marble motifs. Complementary hints and accents are the preferred method of incorporating marble into your interior.

There’s also the satisfying feeling of furnishing with an authentic material to think about, a certain sense of pride that only comes from owning the genuine article. The recent popularity of marble is part of an overall decorating trend towards more natural mediums in an effort to make our homes seem more personal and ‘real’.

If you are considering marble, a fireplace suite or mantel is a great way to introduce just a touch of trendy refinement in a fashionably small dose. Our distinct range of modest designs and neutral tones are the perfect negotiation of understated focal finesse.

Coupled with one of our fires, a marble hearth is the ideal statement piece, tastefully treading the line between modern design trends and classical appreciation.

Still not convinced to decorate as the Romans did? Luckily, we offer a wide selection of free samples to ensure you pick the perfect piece to suit your style.

‘Tech-less’ Living Rooms

There’s no doubt that we rely on technology now more than ever. Our entire world is driven by, and dependent on, electronics. Communication, business, entertainment and leisure; there’s an app for every conceivable facet of contemporary life, whilst gadgets and gizmos are par for the course, simply everyday commodities both expected and necessary for almost everything.

With so much of our daily lives consumed with bright lights and clattering buttons, it’s little wonder that more and more homes are starting to incorporate ‘tech-less’ living spaces; tranquil retreats from the onslaught of machines, designated dens devoid of digital distraction.

These rooms are for talking, for socialising, for good old-fashioned communication. They are for thinking, for reflecting and most importantly, for escape. A quiet place is a nourishing thing, one that is gaining in popularity among designers and homeowners alike; and who can blame them? The idea of a space dedicated to real, tangible human interaction in an age of impersonal tech sounds like heaven.

One of the most exciting propositions of a tech-less room is the décor. Without any electronics to worry about, you are able to furnish and arrange in any way you like, free of the constraints of conventional interior decoration. It’s also a wonderful chance to tie the room together with that most traditional of fixtures; the fireplace, a timeless focal point that has proudly adorned living rooms for generations.

Before all these new-fangled contraptions took over our lives, the fireplace was the centre of attention. A tech-less room is the perfect opportunity to show some appreciation for tradition and invest in a handsome hearth for an unbeatably comforting ambience.

There’s even additional room to focus on a few by-gone fixtures. Turn your tech-less refuge into a library by filling it with all sorts of lovely books. Having a special space to get lost in your favourite novel is incredibly therapeutic; the perfect way to pull the plug and clear away the wires that seem to entangle everything these days.
